PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT IS KEY TO A CHILD’S
MATHEMATICAL SUCCESS
LOS ALAMITOS, CALIFORNIA - King Joe Educational Enterprises is a premier company that has just released a set of 6 colorful math vocabulary storybooks about King Joe and his friends. Never before has anyone gathered nearly 800 of the most commonly used math words and phrases from 13 of our nation’s most popular textbook series. They have taken it a step further and linked each of the units to the National Math Standards, including measurement, fractions, problem solving and probability, to name a few. Each unit of The King Joe Series comes in a boxed set with the storybook and reinforcement vocabulary flashcards. The math words and phrases are gathered from second grade textbooks throughout the United States, but they are having great success in grades Pre-K through 4.
The King Joe Series was developed by Dr. Linda Rodgers, an elementary school educator with nearly 20 years of experience, and now President of King Joe Educational Enterprises. She created them in response to her own personal experiences with standardized testing:
It was frustrating for me to watch my
students choose the incorrect answers on tests because they had never seen such
words as “numerator,” “denominator” or “Venn Diagram” in print before. I knew
my children were proficient in the math concepts and skills, but were being
held back by the difficult vocabulary in print. The King Joe Series is an
excellent way to expose children to these words, as well as strengthen
mathematical concepts. It is also an essential tool for parents and home
schoolers to help reinforce what is being taught in the classroom.
Teachers, do you need an easy and fun way to reinforce current concepts being taught in your classroom? Is it getting close to the dreaded standardized testing time? Expose your children to nearly 800 key math words and phrases. You don’t want testing day to be the first time your students see these words in print! According to the 2002 STAR Report, only 16% of our students are considered advanced, with an alarming 32% coming in at either below basic or far below basic academic performance levels.
Parents and home schoolers, are you looking for a great way to reinforce learning at home and to help improve your child’s test scores? Reading a storybook together with flashcards is a quality-time activity that your children will enjoy. A second grade teacher says, “The characters and story make the content and standards get through in a fun way. They probably won’t even realize how much they are learning…” Parental involvement is declared by the TIMSS study as the most important achievement driver for younger students.
